NSSI invited to speak at Joan Patrick Elementary School

 "Tires to Tiles" Recycling Assembly

Denise Bennett, NSSI Regional Manager in Macon Missouri, was invited to speak today at a student assembly at Joan Patrick Elementary school in Bevier Missouri to discuss the benefits of recycling.  The presentation, "Tires to Tiles", focused on the benefits of converting Missouri scrap tires into valuable, high-quality products.

Joan Patrick Elementary is one of fourteen recipients of the Missouri DNR's scrap tire grants and used the grant funds to purchase NSSI's DuroMat Extended Life® playground safety tiles to improve the safety and accessibility of their outdoor play areas as well as lower the time and expense required to maintain playground surfacing to Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) standards.  The products and professional services provided by the NSSI are featured in the Missouri Playground Surfacing Program, sponsored by NSSI and the Missouri School Board Association (MSBA).

"Our playground improvements provide a quality example of how multiple organizations working together can provide valuable solutions to better protect children and the environment," said Lisa Keen, Principal, Joan Patrick Elementary.  "One of the core goals of this project was to provide an educational forum for our staff and students to gain a better understanding of all the benefits of tire recycling and this assembly was very informative. We want to thank the DNR for selecting our school for this grant, the NSSI and Ms. Bennett for their time and effort, and hope that our project will encourage others to follow our example."

Bennett added, "I would like to thank Principal Keen and Joan Patrick Elementary for selecting our playground safety surfacing and inviting us to present our recycling methods and benefits to the staff and kids. We look forward to assisting more Missouri schools in meeting their safety and recycling goals."

The National Safe Surfacing Initiative provides a full portfolio of playground safety audits, inspections, designs, and certifications as well as DuroMat Extended Life® playground safety surfacing to bring playground surfacing into compliance with federal and state guidelines.  NSSI also provide unique financing and fund-raising solutions enabling communities, schools and child care centers to invest in safer playground surfaces while lowering maintenance costs and liability risks.
