Who is the National Playground Compliance Group
The NPCG is the combination of quality manufacturing companies under a single corporate umbrella, creating and designing playground equipment and rubber tile safety surfacing for the creation of safe and accessible outdoor play and fitness areas.

Many schools cannot afford to purchase both playground equipment and proper safety surfacing. By working directly with the NPCG you save thousands by cutting out the commissions paid to dealers and resellers. Utilizing Overall Solutions® will help with financing and provide the professional experience necessary to create and maintain a fully compliant play area for your children.

  What is the NSSI?
The NSSI works with schools and municipalities to find resources for improving surfacing in playgrounds throughout the U.S. through the installation of DuroMat Extended Life™ playground safety tiles manufactured with recycled rubber.

How do DuroMat Extended Life™ playground safety products improve my playground?
Fall Height Safety - Rubber surfacing provides consistent, long-term fall-height protection. Because “loose-fill” surfacing (wood chips, mulch, sand, pea gravel) loses its protective characteristics as it is used, children may be more at risk for injury. Also, loose-fill materials can harbor unsafe allergens, foreign material and objects.

Long-Term Maintenance Savings - The daily and annual maintenance of loose-fill playground surfacing is expensive. Not only do loose-fill playgrounds require high maintenance, but the material can also be carried onto sidewalks and into school buildings, creating additional work for custodial staff. Rubber surfacing, on the other hand, requires minimal care.

ADA Accessibility - The American Disabilities Act (ADA) requires schools to provide all children with access to their playgrounds. Most loose-fill surface playgrounds do not allow children in wheel chairs or with other disabilities to easily use the equipment.

More Playtime - Because this playground rubber surfacing does not freeze, stays cleaner and dries quickly, children receive extended days of playtime during the school year.

Are DuroMat Extended Life™ playground safety tiles certified?
DuroMat Extended Life(tm) surfacing products have undergone thorough safety and accessibility testing, meeting or exceeding the American Society for Testing Material (ASTM) and International Playground Equipment Manufacturers Association (IPEMA) standards and Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) guidelines.

In addition, DuroMat Extended Life(tm) playground safety tiles are the only playground tiles that have been tested by the National Program for Playground Safety, with grants from the Iowa Legislature, and when combined with adequate training are proven to reduce serious playground injuries by 75%.

Will shredded rubber chips offer the same quality of safety as Rubber Tiles?
NO, shredded rubber has the same problem as all loose-fill material. It is easily kicked out of place by children at play and must be maintainted daily per Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) guidelines.

In addition, shredded rubber has a tendency to harbor foreign material, animal feces and sharp objects. Shredded rubber material can also be inhaled or injested by younger children creating health concerns.

Shredded rubber surfaces are more likely to be the target of vandals because the rubber shreds are easily ignited.

Are there environmental and recycling benefits for this program?
Yes, the rubber-tile surfacing is manufactured through a patented process that uses recycled scrap-tire materials. Many states have spent millions of dollars on the environmental clean up of hazardous scrap tires. This process converts the environmental problem into a useful product.

What are my costs for installing the new tile surfacing?
Cost will be based on size of playground and thickness of tile based on fall height protection. The best way to get pricing is to contact us.

What are the steps involved in a tile installation?
Generally, a tile surface installation consists of five (5) steps:
- site layout plan and surface design
- removal of existing loose-fill material, if necessary
- pouring concrete with regard to drainage considerations
- installation of the tiles
- backfill/landscape of area

Who can guide us through the installation requirements and process?
The NSSI will guide you through your tile install process; from design to site preparation through completion. Please contact the National Safe Surfacing Initiative toll free at 866-345-6774 or e-mail at info@nssi-usa.com.

If we choose to install on our own, is there a written installation manual?
As part of your purchase order, you will be provided with a set of installation guidelines, which details how to install the safety tiles. Because each site has individual requirements and layouts, we encourage you to contact the National Safe Surfacing Initiative, with any special concerns or questions.

What are maintenance requirements for the tiles once installed?
Playground safety tiles require minimal maintenance. Should the tiles become dirty or covered with rocks, sand or other debris, the tiles can be swept with a broom and/or sprayed with an air hose or leaf blower. For hard to remove dirt – the manufacturer recommends warm water & a mild detergent.
